Agents
Guardrails are the explicit rules on what an agent may say and do: the topics it must refuse, the actions it may take and when it hands over to a person.
Prompt instructions alone are not guardrails. They are suggestions the model usually follows, and 'usually' is not a control when the subject is a refund limit or a clinical question. Real guardrails are enforced outside the model, in code that checks the output before it reaches the caller or the API.
The useful ones tend to be boring and specific: never quote a price outside this list, never give dosage advice, never refund above this value, always escalate if the caller says these words. Specific rules are testable; general instructions to 'be careful' are not.
They also need to be auditable after the fact. When something goes wrong the question is always which rule applied and what the agent did. That means the decision needs to be logged, not just the transcript.

We will not put you on a nurture sequence. If it is not a fit we say so and that is the end of it.
